2008 IRP5 and IRP501 reconciliations


SARS have issued a letter to all employers on 13 March 2008, announcing the next phase in the process of improving PAYE administration and reconciliation. This includes changes to the method of submitting tax certificates to SARS, and a simplification of the 2008 IRP501 reconciliation process.

The portion of the letter that immediately affects you is the following:

  • SARS have requested employers to delay submission of their 2008 tax certificates and IRP501 reconciliation until further notice from SARS.

If you have already submitted your tax certificates and IRP501 reconciliation for 2008, you do not have to resubmit once the new process is operational.

We have however been advised by SARS in a separate notice issued on 8 April, that until further notice SARS will not be:

  • Issuing IRP501 forms for the 2008 tax year of assessment
  • Providing Manual IRP5/IT3(a) books
  • Accepting any reconciliations or IRP5/IT3(a) certificates for the 2008 tax year of assessment – either manually or electronically
  • Accepting any related Test of Live data

SARS will be issuing additional information to all employers in this regard within the next month

Where you are not on a computerised payroll package, we suggest that you collate the necessary information in order to complete the 2008 IRP5’s until further notice from SARS.
