BCEA changes to earnings threshold

May 13, 2026 | Taxation Blog | Juanita Roman

The Minister of Employment and Labour has published a new earnings threshold in terms of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA). New threshold is R269,600.90 per annum (approximately R22 466.00 per month). The old threshold from 1 April 2025 to 30 April 2026 was R261 748.45 per annum (approx. R21 812.67 per month).

Employees earning above this threshold are excluded from certain provisions of the BCEA (such as overtime pay and working time regulations).

We recommend that employers review their current contracts/terms and conditions for employees who may now qualify for overtime payment.
