“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” – Nelson Mandela

Today is Nelson Mandela’s birthday, and the call is out for people everywhere to celebrate this by acting on the idea that each person has the power to change the world.  It was back in 2008 when Mandela said: “It is time for new hands to lift the burdens. It is in your hands now.”

This special day recognises Mandela’s “values and his dedication to the service of humanity” and acknowledging his contribution “to the struggle for democracy internationally and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world”.  www.mandeladay.com

This year, we at MD are taking part in his vision and demonstrating our values and show of support in serving humanity.  We have chosen to contribute as Staff by donating 67 books to a Children’s Library in Lavender Hill.

“John Nicholson, a big-hearted father in the Cape Flats, has been hailed a local hero for opening a children’s library in his Hillview home. Assisted by his son, John transformed his garage into a library that now houses over 5000 books. The passion project has become a haven for children who love reading and need a quiet place to learn. John relies on donations to keep his project going so if you’d like to donate books or money to assist in running the library contact him at +27(0) 74 695 4191 or email omegaview@yahoo.com.” – Source: IOL
