Updated | Employment Revival Guide: Alert Level 1 Regulations

Compiled by CDH’s Employment Law team

“Following a sustained decrease in the number of active COVID-19 cases nationwide, on 16 September 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that South Africa would move to Alert Level 1 (AL1) with effect from 21 September 2020. AL1 of the lockdown is aimed at the recommencement of almost all economic activities, provided persons continue to wear face masks in public, maintain social distancing and strict adherence to all health and safety protocols. While the President has allowed the recommencement of almost all economic activities, he has also cautioned the nation in relation to relevant health and safety protocols so as to ensure that South Africa is not subject to a “second wave” of COVID-19 infections. The purpose of this guide is to assist employers in the continuation or resumption of operations in accordance with AL1.”
