We are seeking an experienced Chartered Accountant (SA) to join our Management team, with a clearly defined Partner Designate career path for the right candidate.


Role Overview

 

This is a senior-level, client-facing role suited to a confident and autonomous professional with strong technical expertise in accounting, tax and financial reporting. The successful candidate will manage a full portfolio of clients and staff, take ownership of complex accounting matters, and play an active role in mentoring junior team members, trainee accountants and supporting advisory work.

Key Responsibilities

 

Accounting & Financial Reporting

 

  • Take ownership of the preparation and review of annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and IFRS for SMEs, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage the end-to-end monthly and annual accounts preparation process for a portfolio of corporate clients.
  • Review work prepared by trainee and junior accountants, providing constructive feedback, technical guidance, and oversight.
  • Resolve complex and non-routine accounting matters, including judgemental areas and ad hoc technical issues.
  • Ensure all financial outputs meet internal quality control standards, professional requirements, and agreed deadlines.

Client Interaction & Advisory Support

 

  • Act as a key point of contact for client queries relating to financial reporting and accounting matters.
  • Support company valuations, financial analysis, and forward-planning discussions, with partner support where appropriate.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, demonstrating commercial awareness and professionalism.
  • Collaborate closely with partners and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate service delivery.

Team Leadership & Practice Contribution

 

  • Work independently and autonomously within an office-based professional environment.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and support to junior and trainee accountants.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development, efficiency, and maturity of the practice.
  • Assist in developing internal processes, technical standards, and best practices.

Required Qualifications & Experience

 

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (SA)
  • Minimum 5 years post-articles experience in a professional practice environment
  • Manager-level experience with strong exposure to financial accounts preparation and review
  • Proven ability to manage complex workloads and review junior staff output confidently
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS for SMEs
  • Comfortable with client-facing communication and higher-level accounting discussions

Systems & Software (Advantageous)

 

Experience with the following systems is beneficial but not essential:

  • Xero
  • Sage
  • CaseWare

A strong ability to adapt quickly to new systems and technology is essential.


Work Arrangement

 

  • Full-time, permanent position
  • In-office role based in Kenilworth, Cape Town, South Africa initially with opportunity to work in a Hybrid Capacity based on the needs of the firm
